Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a recruitment agency?

Start with the specialty rather than the size. An agency that hires in your field every day already knows the candidates, the going salaries and the arguments that get an offer accepted. Then check that it covers your local market, and compare how it bills and what guarantee it offers if the hire leaves during the probation period.

How much does a recruitment agency charge?

Fees are almost always a percentage of the hire’s first-year gross salary. Two models exist side by side. On a success fee you pay only once the candidate is hired, which is the norm for everyday roles. On a retained assignment you pay in instalments as the search runs, which is usual for leadership roles where the search is long and confidential.

What is the difference between a recruitment agency and a headhunter?

The difference is method, not seriousness. A classic agency advertises the role and works its candidate database. A headhunter approaches people who are already employed and not looking, which takes longer and is usually billed as a retained assignment. Many firms do both and pick according to how rare the profile is.

How long does hiring through an agency take?

Expect four to ten weeks between the brief and the signature, depending on how rare the profile is and how quickly you interview. First candidates often arrive within one or two weeks. In practice the timeline depends most on how many people have to approve the hire on your side.

How is this directory built?

Every listing is written from the agency’s own website, not copied from someone else’s ranking. Name, founding year, offices, sectors, services and working languages all come from what the agency publishes about itself. Firms that place no candidates, such as web agencies or consultancies, are left out.

What does the "Verified" badge mean?

A listing moves through three levels. By default it is simply listed: we wrote it from public sources and the agency has confirmed nothing. It becomes claimed when someone at the agency confirms the listing is theirs. The "Verified" badge appears only once a person on our side has checked the listing against the agency’s own website.

How do I get my agency listed?

Listing is free through the "Add my agency" button. You give your offices, specialties and services, and we review the entry before it goes live. If your agency is already in the directory, the "Claim this listing" button on each entry lets you claim it and correct anything that is wrong.
